Sacred home to the celestial maiden of water and the performing arts
Chikubu Island is home to Hogonji Temple, one of Japan’s three great shrines dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten, and Tsukubusuma Shrine. Known as the Island of the Gods, Chikubu Island is a famous power spot floating in the northern part of Lake Biwa. In addition to temples and shrines, many buildings with historical value remain, including the National Treasure Karamon Gate, the Important Cultural Property Kannondo Hall, and the Three-storied Pagoda restored for the first time in about 350 years.
